Absentee Voting

To be qualified to vote an absentee ballot, you must meet one of the following criteria:

  • You will be unavoidably absent from your polling site on election day, OR
  • You will be unable to attend your polling site on election day due to illness or physical disability, OR
  • You are a member of the Uniformed Services, merchant marines or the spouse or a dependant family member and are away from your polling location due to the member’s active duty status, OR
  • A U.S. citizen whose residence is in Arkansas but is temporarily living outside the territorial limits of the United States.

Your absentee ballot application must be submitted 7 days before the election by mail, or if you submit your application in person, by the close of business the day before Election Day. Completed ballots must be returned and delivered by your clerk’s office by 1:30 PM on Election Day if sent by mail, if you return your completed ballot in person it must be returned by the close of business on the day before Election Day.

Early Voting 

Early voting is available for most elections 15 days before Election Day, for special elections, 7 days before Election Day. Most counties have early voting at your county clerk’s office. Early voting ends 5 PM on the Monday before the election. Check with your county clerk for specific details in your jurisdiction.

What to Expect
on Election Day

On Election Day, polls are open from 7:30 AM to 7:30 PM. Find your polling location.

Voter ID Requirements

You are required to have a photo ID to cast your ballot. An ID can be used to vote if it meets all of the following requirements:
  • It shows your name
  • It shows your photo
  • If your ID has an expiration date, it must be unexpired or expired no more than 4 years before the election date
  • It is issued by:
    • United States Federal government
    • State of Arkansas
    • Post-high school institution in Arkansas
    • Administrator of a long-term care or residential care facility that is licensed by Arkansas (must attest the voter is a resident)

Language Access

Section 203 of the Voting Rights Act requires certain jurisdictions to provide in-language voting materials in areas with a significant number of limited English proficient voters.

Section 208

Section 208 of the Voting Rights Act states that, “Any voter who requires assistance to vote by reason of blindness, disability, or inability to read or write may be given assistance by a person of the voter’s choice, other than the voter’s employer or agent of the employer or office or agent of the voter’s union.” 

It is your right to bring your own interpreter to the polls, if you so choose.
