Absentee Voting
Voters can only vote by mail in Louisiana with an approved excuse. To vote absentee and by mail in Louisiana, you must provide a reason to be eligible, unless you are a military or overseas voter. You must apply to vote absentee and request your ballot by 4:30 PM at least 4 days before Election Day. Your completed ballot must then be returned to your parish registrar of voters by 4:30 PM on the day before Election Day.

Early Voting
Anyone is eligible to vote early in Louisiana, beginning 14 days before Election Day and ending 7 days before Election Day, at your parish registrar of voters or another designated site.

What to Expect
on Election Day
On Election Day, polls are open from 6 AM to 8 PM.
Voter ID Requirements
To vote on Election Day, you must provide a form photo ID, such as:
- a driver’s license
- a Louisiana Special ID
- some other generally recognized picture ID that contains your name and signature
If you do not have a driver’s license, Louisiana Special ID, or any other generally recognized picture ID, you can still vote by signing a voter affidavit.
Language Access
Section 203 of the Voting Rights Act requires certain jurisdictions to provide in-language voting materials in areas with a significant number of limited English proficient voters.
Section 208
Section 208 of the Voting Rights Act states that, “Any voter who requires assistance to vote by reason of blindness, disability, or inability to read or write may be given assistance by a person of the voter’s choice, other than the voter’s employer or agent of the employer or office or agent of the voter’s union.”
It is your right to bring your own interpreter to the polls, if you so choose.
