WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Asian and Pacific  Islander American Vote is happy to announce that, in partnership with Lyft, we will provide access to free and heavily discounted transportation for Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders to get to the polls during the upcoming election.

APIAVote is proud to have made rides available throughout early voting, and will make rides available again on Election Day. With Lyft’s support, APIAVote will be able to ensure Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders are able to be part of the political process and create impact by providing transportation for civic engagement in a reliable and affordable way.

This partnership is part of Lyft’s Voting Access program, which aims to remove transportation barriers associated with voting. In addition to working with nonprofit partners like us, Lyft is providing access to discounted rideshare, bike and scooter rides to the general public to make it as easy as possible for anyone and everyone to vote.

Lyft’s Voting Access Program is an initiative of Lyft Up, Lyft’s comprehensive effort to expand transportation access to those who need it most. Through Lyft Up, Lyft provides access to free and discounted rides to help communities across the country get to job interviews, access healthy food, connect with critical resources in the aftermath of disasters, and more.

“Access to transportation is one of the greatest barriers to voting for Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders – whether its to get to one’s polling location, or a mail-in ballot dropbox,” said Christine Chen, Executive Director of Asian and Pacific Islander American Vote. “We partnered with Lyft in 2020 to fill this gap, and are proud to do so again in 2022. Together, we will empower AAPI communities and ensure no member of our communities is prevented from conducting their civic duty due to lack to transportation.”

“We believe that everyone’s voice – and vote – deserves to be heard, and transportation should never be a barrier,” said Lyft’s Director of Social Impact, Lisa Boyd. “Lyft is proud to support APIAVote’s efforts to make getting to the polls as seamless as possible.”
