BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Jason Chan
Director of External Affairs, AT&T
Jason Chan is Director of External Affairs for AT&T, where he leads AT&T’s national Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) engagement, and serves as Chief of Staff to Ken McNeely, AT&T’s President of the West/Midwest Region. In both roles, he partners with the State and Federal External Affairs and Policy teams to develop strategies for third party campaigns and ensure strong cohesive messaging to communicate policy initiatives.
As Ken McNeely’s Chief of Staff, he provides thought leadership and rapid response on shared issues and priorities, including COVID-19, wildfire relief, and social justice. He also leads ongoing development of the team, including evaluation and alignment of individual skillsets to maximize effectiveness of complimentary abilities, and working with the President to plan high-value team building meetings.
As Director of External Affairs, Jason works to ensure AT&T is leading in social responsibility including strengthening the relationship with the AAPI community and other underserved and diverse communities. With over a decade of experience in AAPI advocacy, Jason has been instrumental in developing the company’s investment in the community, which has included workforce development, career readiness programs, digital media, and entertainment employment opportunities.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic and pivoting of priorities for AT&T, Jason has been focused on combatting anti-AAPI hate in the community, championing racial equality across the country, and bridging the digital divide to increase virtual learning opportunities.
Prior to joining AT&T, Jason held multiple government appointments with the City and County of San Francisco including Appointments Secretary for Mayor Gavin Newsom and served as the Political Director for the Ed Lee for Mayor Campaign.
Jason currently serves on the board of the Asian Pacific American Institute for Congressional Studies as well as Equality California, the nation’s largest statewide LGBTQ civil rights organization. Jason has previously served on the California 1a District Agricultural Association, appointed by Governor Jerry Brown.
Jason holds a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Golden Gate University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from San Francisco State University.
