History
APIAVote began as the 1996 National Asian Pacific American Voter Registration Campaign, which comprised of national organizations that were just becoming conscious of the need to politically mobilize the APIA community.
APIAVote has entered a critical juncture in its organizational life cycle; whereas APIAVote started under a coalition-based infrastructure with the Organization of Chinese Americans serving as a fiscal agent, it became clear that APIAVote was maturing and needed to become its own 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. In an effort to move toward sustainability and establishing itself as its own entity, APIAVote began the thoughtful and formalized process of strategic planning in June 2005. This planning process was made possible with a grant from the Ford Foundation. APIAVote was incorporated in Washington, D.C. during December 2005.
